GKR Wins Prestigious Constructing Excellence Award
07 Jul

GKR Maintenance & Building Co Ltd (GKR), is celebrating winning the Leadership & People Development Award at the 2010 Constructing Excellence in Wales (CEW) Awards, held on Friday 2nd July at the SWALEC Stadium.  GKR now progresses to the national final to be held later this year.

The CEW Awards scheme, sponsored by Magnox and TSIF, is about celebrating the great and the good in Welsh construction.  This year, more than ever before, finalists demonstrated that a collaborative approach to construction procurement and project management delivers outstanding results on time, on budget and that are sustainable.

“With increasing pressure on costs and a demand for more for less, now is the time to apply renewed construction principles to Welsh construction,” saidMilica Kitson, chief executive of CEW.  “The example shown by all of our Award winners, particularly the winner of our Leadership & People Development award, GKR, clearly demonstrates that a collaborative approach to procurement and project management not only guarantees great projects, but is the only way to achieve Government targets on waste and low/zero carbon.”

After completing a written submission, GKR was shortlisted alongside Leadbitter and Swansea Council for the Leadership & People Development award. The company was also required to attend an interview and deliver a presentation, before discovering that they had successfully won the award.  This particular award was sponsored by Morgan Cole Solicitors and was one of ten awards presented this year at the event hosted by Roy Noble, in front of an audience of over 460 people.

Every aspect of the industry was represented.  The annual awards are an opportunity for every part of the Welsh built environment to demonstrate their achievements and promote the ideals of collaborative working and best practice.

Chris Dennis, director of GKR, commented ‘We are extremely pleased to have won this award and we look forward to attending the national awards inLondon. This is a great achievement for the company and a sign of the commitment we have to our employees and the service we provide to our customers. This is not the first award that the company has gained in recent times; we were also awarded the Investors in People Award (liP) at the end of last year, which is another commitment we uphold to caring for our staff and clients.”

Eira Rowe, director operations and events at CEW said:  “These award winners are the best of the best and proof that the collaborative approach to the procurement and management of projects delivers outstanding performance and results every time.  It is a shining example for the rest of construction to follow at a time when we need to improve our procurement methods and measure performance.  Congratulations to all the winners and thank you to our sponsors and to everyone that attended such a great evening.”
