GKR to Maintain and Improve Homes & Communities
02 Jul

GKR Maintenance and Building Co. Ltd (GKR), a leading South Wales Building Maintenance Service Provider, has recently been awarded a two-year Reactive Building Maintenance for Cadwyn Housing Association.

Caerphilly-based GKR has a proven track record working with high profile clients and was recently awarded the Investors in People Award (liP).  GKR has also been shortlisted for a Constructing Excellence Award; the results are to be announced in early July.  The maintenance and building company has established long-term partnerships with social housing associations providing fast, first time solutions for any building defects.

GKR will work alongside Cadwyn Housing Association on Responsive, Emergency and Void Property Maintenance.  Cardiff-based Cadwyn Housing works with the local council in building affordable homes for people in need.  It is a non-profit company with a charitable status and is a registered landlord with the Welsh Assembly Government and part of Community Housing Cymru and has been helping to build communities since 1972.

Andrew Bateson, Director of Technical Services at Cadwyn, adds, ‘We are happy to be working alongside GKR and I am sure that its proven track-record will assist us in helping to build and maintain the community and complete all work quickly and effectively to cause the least possible disruption’.

Jayne Rowland-Evans, a Director of GKR, states, ‘GKR is looking forward to working with Cadwyn Housing Association on its reactive and void works which will provide secure employment for GKR within many trades in the construction industry.   We are confident of providing an excellent service and look forward to continuous improvement of service for Cadwyn’s customers by developing new and using innovative construction techniques.’

GKR has also secured a three-year contract with Cardiff City Council working with the approval of the Disabled Facilities Grant.  GKR will be part of a framework team carrying out over £15 million improvement works.

GKR will also work as part of a rotational team with Cardiff Council on housing and neighbourhood renewal adaptations and repairs.  The work will involve adapting properties for disabled clients, including bathroom adaptations and external ramps and handrails, after approval of a disabled facilities grant, to give more freedom of life and independence at home for people living with physical disabilities.

Richard Attwell, a Director of GKR, commented, ‘GKR is delighted to continue its Partnership with the Cardiff City Councils Disabled Facilities Grants Department. We have a proven team of highly skilled operatives carrying out sometimes ‘life changing’ adaptations. It is definitely one of the most rewarding contracts to be involved in and it is a pleasure to see immediately the positive impact the works have made to the client’s well being.’

Cardiff Council, commented, ‘We hope that GKR will bring its expertise to the project and help it to run smoothly and give our clients more independence.  We welcome them to this initiative’.
