On Sunday 9th August, Nelson Air Rifle Club held a charity fundraising day for Prostate Cymru. The air rifle club’s 177 members took part in various events including HFT-FT shooting, bell target shooting, bench rest shooting; as well as bonus shots and a raffle, to raise money for this worthwhile cause.
In Wales more than 2,500+ men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year, and over 600 men die from the disease annually. It is the most common cancer in Welsh men, with 1 in 8 men diagnosed in their lifetime – a risk that climbs to 1 in 3 if there is a family history. Early detection is crucial; to learn more, visit the Q&A section on the Prostate Cymru Website.
Adrian Jarman, co-organiser of the event and Electrical Manager at GKR, approached the company and they responded with a £100 donation, which brought the grand total raised to £3,638.00. Adrian said of the event: “A huge thank you to everyone who attended, took part, donated, bought raffle tickets, provided prizes, helped to organise, or supported us in any way. Every contribution, big or small, helped us reach this fantastic total.”
Jayne Rowland Evans, Director at GKR said, “We are delighted to have been in a position to make a donation, as well as helping raise awareness of Prostate Cymru. It is such an important charity that works tirelessly to promote regular prostate health checks throughout Wales.”.
Prostate Cymru will be attending Nelson Air Rifle Club on 6th September 2026 for the fundraising handover presentation. Adrian Jarman will represent Wales at the World Hunter Field Target Championships taking place in Nottingham on 29th and 30th August - GKR wishes him every success.
