WWH Making A Difference Awards 2013

GKR Maintenance were proud to sponsor the WWH MAD awards once again, recoginising and celebrating the enterprise, kindress, endeavour and generosity shown by many of WWHA's Resident.
This year we sponsored the Green fingers (retirement) award. Congratulations to Dee Thorne from Ty Ddewi, Ton Pentre.
Dee suffered a severe stroke which left her having to work incredibly hard to learn how to speak again, as well as the basics of reading and writing. Even more difficult, she has had to rebuild relationships with friends and family.
Despite all this, Dee has managed to continue gardening and has made the scheme look beautiful. She plants, weeds, waters and harvests and is regularly seen lugging bags of compost around on her wheelchair.
Fellow resident John Mann, who nominated Dee for the award, says: “Dee is a selfless individual, who sees nothing special in her achievements, yet she is always smiling and looking forward in a way that many of us wish we could.”
